Nine speech samples from Ali Khamenei serve as the basis to analyze his efforts at building an Islamic national identity for Iran. The research adopts Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) models through its application of the Socio-Cognitive Model. and nine speeches out of a corpus of 24557 words have been selected and analyzed the word frequency using NVivo plus software. By employing the idea of in and out groups and the significance of linguistic identity development in the process of national identity construction, Khamenei has effectively used the force of his religious beliefs and rhetoric to forge an identity of Islamic nationalism among the Iranian people. Moreover, several tactics in the development of Iran's distinct Islamic national identity have also been highlighted.
