Abstract

Analyzing the use of Freudian defense mechanisms of denial and reality perception, particularly in Sabyn Javeri's short story A World Without Men, this study focuses on the narrator and Saira’s character. There has been a lot of research on Freudian defensive mechanisms in literature, but not much of it has focused on how denial and reality perception are used in A World Without Men. This study examines how denial and a warped sense of reality affect Saira's actions and relationships in the narrative, utilizing Freudian psychoanalytic theory as a framework. The analysis shows that the narrator and Saira use denial and warped perceptions of reality as coping techniques to deal with the pressure of their arranged or failed marriages that didn't work out and the expectations of society that were put on them. Through the application of Freudian defensive mechanisms, this study analyzes these characteristics, highlighting the significance of comprehending the unconscious forces that drive conduct and the detrimental effects of denial on personal health.
