EXPLORING RESILIENT ADAPTATIONS THROUGH TECHNOLOGICAL POSTHUMANISM IN KAZUO ISHIGURO’S KLARA AND THE SUN

Abstract

This research contends technological posthumanism portrayed in Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun (2021) reveals resilient adaptations going beyond the conventional lines separating natural and artificial life. To reveal the complex interactions between human and non-human entities, this qualitative inquiry employs Pieter Abbeel's views on machine learning and robotic autonomy alongside Bruno Latour's Actor Network Theory. These theoretical frameworks provide essential insights for dissecting how machine intelligence profoundly shapes human emotions, behavioral patterns, and social interactions, reaching far beyond its computational capabilities. This work questions accepted ideas of intelligence, autonomy, and agency by underscoring the non-human entity’s ability to learn and make choices, thereby prompting a critical reassessment of long-standing paradigms. Furthermore, the investigation highlights the phenomena of human-machine integration, illustrating that both sentient machines and humans exhibits resilient adaptations in the face of evolving technological environments. This dichotomy highlights the blurring of borders and implies that both synthetic and organic intelligences co-create the emerging social and emotional interactions in a future dominated by technology. Ultimately, this research presents a compelling view of the transformative influence of posthuman narratives, encouraging further research that could foster innovative forms of interdependence and collaboration in an increasingly interconnected world. Focusing on the human-machine partnership, this research redefines intelligence and agency.
