Abstract

As a result of discrimination, the people who belong to the black community face the loss of their inner selves, which affects them psychologically. This research focuses on the inner loss of awareness of human beings who encounter the discriminatory behavior of colonizers and have experiences of enslavement. This research aims to explore the identity crisis of the novel Attic Child (2022) by Jaye. For the analysis of the change in the identities of the characters of this novel, Fanon’s Postcolonial Theory was applied. This study explores the identity crisis of Dikembe, who was associated with the black community and suffered from displacement from his beloved to the attic, where Lowra, who was associated with the white race, suffered in her childhood and is now in the circumstances of her identity crisis. This research highlights how the lives of the characters of the novel turn into unconsciousness of their inner personalities because of the enslavement under the domination of different kinds of dominants.
