This study titled, Veganism Turning into Eco-Terrorism in Han Kang’s The Vegetarian discusses the term eco-terrorism in relation to the concept of Veganism. Furthermore, this research also examines how the past trauma contributes to the emergence of extreme practices and to the collapse of familial relations. Through the lens of eco-terrorism, this study investigates the complex relationship between violent actions and non-violent resistance and methods. Veganism is just a tool opted by protagonist to show her non-violent behavior against violence but on a broader level this is a struggle to be independent, and to be isolated from human life, completely in the wilderness of solitude where no traces of humanity remains. The analysis highlights the ways in which protagonist believes she is turning into a plant and that she is saving herself – ironically by approaching death. This research contributes to the fields of Eco-criticism, Eco-terrorism, psychology, and environmental humanities by demonstrating the balanced and sustainable relationship with nature and also on giving outlet to past traumas through defense mechanisms. Ultimately, this study advocates for a balanced approach in everyday life and not to repress childhood traumas, prioritizing the well-being of both human and non-human entities.
