SOCIAL DISORGANIZATION AND DISINTEGRATION OF THE FAMILY SYSTEM IN OWENS’ WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING (2018)

This research explores the concept of family disintegration in American society. This study discusses how Owens showed the social disorganization, alienation, loneliness and family breakdown in where the Crawdads Sing. The objectives of the research are to find out and explain how physical abuse is the main cause of family breakdown? It leads Kya, the main character, to destruction. This research is a qualitative study applying content analysis method. The data of this research is a novel entitled where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens in 2018. The data analysis is conducted by classifying and categorizing the data to find the inference. In order to gain reliability, the researcher read and reread the novel carefully and then recorded the data into a systematic framework based on the sociological theory by Max Weber. The result of this research indicates the points which causes family disintegration; the first point is secularization, second point is physical abuse and family quarrel, and the third point is that social disorganization leads to social vices such as drinking, mental sickness, sexual abuse, murder and death
